Share a shave ice in Hawaiʻi 🍧 If you're in Waikīkī we recommend @lahaina.shave.ice on Beach Walk 🙌🏼 Here's our mini-guide to ordering this local sweet treat: 1. HOW TO SAY IT Take note, there is no "d" in shave ice. It's called shave ice on every Hawaiian Island except the Big Island where they actually call it ice shave 🙃 2. SIZES In general, serving sizes in Hawaiʻi are huge. The smallest size in Hawaiʻi is usually "keiki" (meaning child in Hawaiian). This "regular" cup was perfect for three of us to share👌🏽 3. BOTTOM TREATS Choose from vanilla ice cream, azuki beans (Japanese red beans cooked with sugar and water), mochi (Japanese rice cake pieces often sweet, soft and chewy) and even boba (tapioca balls) 🍦 4. FLAVORS Now for the main ingredient, stick with one to three flavored syrups. With so much choice it's not as easy as it sounds! Some translations might come in handy like lilikoi (passionfruit), haupia (coconut) and POG (passionfruit, orange and guava). [SWIPE 👈🏽 for menu] 5.
